Q2:How To Know If The Filament is PLA or ABS?
It is not easy to tell PLA filament and ABS filament by only judging on their appearances. The easies way is smell. PLA filament creates slightly sweet smell when 3D printing, but ABS emits fume and unpleasant smell during 3D printing. Appearance of ABS filament is matt and it of PLA filament is glossy.
When PLA filament is heated up to 200°C, it can be extruded easily but ABS filament can't. It takes about 220°C to melt ABS filament. If the temperature gets higher, there will be bubbles appear on PLA filament or PLA will easilty get carbonized.
Q3: Why diameter 1.75mm is popular?
• 1.75mm 3D printer filament is most common in the 3D printing market due to below reasons.
• 3D printer filament with a smaller diameter allows for more compact hot end designs.
• 3D printer filament with a smaller diameter can be heated faster because it takes less time for the heat to reach the center, hence the object can be printed faster.
• Smaller diameter of 3D printer filament means nozzles on 3D printer can be smaller, this allows more precise plastic flow control.
• 3D printer filament with a smaller diameter it is also more flexible.
• The extruder on 3D printer requires less force to push the plastic in the extruder.
Q4: What are the applications of PLA and ABS filament?
Both PLA filament and ABS filament are widely used in automobile, mechanical, electrical, electronic instruments and construction industries.
ABS filament is typically used to print high strength products or when the products need to be kept in a long time, home appliances and toys.As for PLA filament, it is used to print large parts and products that touch with human body, toys or bracelet, etc.
Q5: What Temperature does PLA melt?
PLA melts at a lower temperature (around 180C to 220C) than ABS does, and has a glass transition temperature between 60 to 65C.
